Another Reason To Give Blunkett A Slap
Ah, what a joy it is to hear yet more Newspeak from Home Secretary David Blunkett. As he said, in an interview he gave today, it seems that terrorism, not "stability and security" (read: the surveillance state and curbs on civil rights) is the real threat to liberty. This can translate roughly into 'we had to destroy civil rights in order to save them', or the more obvious 'slavery is freedom'. He then has the cheek to say that Labour will win an 'Historic Third Term’ (etc.) through "hope, not fear", and that the new measures he's trying to bring in will allow this to happen. Either Big Brother has just got a sense of humour or he just can't stop taking the piss. The only 'hope' in the bearded brute's life is that he'll get more power.
Now, far be it for me to be controversial. But why should I trust the judgement of this authoritarian twat? Here is a man who on the one hand has been a lay Methodist preacher and on the other has committed adultery with a married woman and perhaps got her pregnant. So why should I trust him to look after my security and trust him with my freedoms when he can't even practice what he preaches? Or does this two-faced way of life make him an ideal man to strip away our way of life and then bullshit about it afterwards? Roll on the flippin' election...
