Solid story , Great Character development , had me locked in till the End!
I'm normally not a fan of sci-fi, intergalactic space warfare, or interplanetary colonization stories, but this particular work reached out to me and pulled me in quickly! Mauldin's ability to weave together the lives of the ship's crew and incorporate a story that leaves you itching to turn the page is impeccable. I was left wanting more, even down to the last page! Great work!
I read a lot. Don't do a lot of reviews. But this book deserves a lot of good reviews. Wonderful characters. Real science. Beautiful love story. Ending that makes you scream for a book two. Hope to see a book two. Great work.
A refreshing, environmentally rich Sci-Fi novel with a rich an accessible dialogue that engages the reader without an overwhelming array of dissonant overly complex sic fi elements. If you are looking for a refreshing read that will provide a pleasant introduction to the world of Sci-Fi novels Final Solution is a wonderful place to begin. This novel does a fantastic job maintaining a momentum that keeps drawing you until a very special final conclusion...that does not disappoint.
The first handful of chapters are a little clunky and campy but then the author really hits his stride and his voice becomes clear and consistent. (Setting the scene and explaining things can do that in the beginning, where this author excels is when narrating events and action, of which this story is chock full) Gripping story throughout, definitely worth the read. About a dozen glaring grammatical boo-boos throughout but no continuity or plot errors to ruin the flow or take you out of the carefully crafted world he's built.
The Final Solution is a solid piece of writing with plot that pulls you in and keeps you hanging up until—quite literally—the final line of the novel.
Mauldin builds the story gradually, using the first handful of chapters to introduce the characters and the situation. And once you know—or at least think you know—what is happening, he peels back layer after layer, revealing a more complex tale of interplanetary intrigue and the interpersonal relationships aboard the Vindicator that dictate the fate of two worlds.
One of the things that I liked most about the novel was the author’s willingness to build a message inside the story. He presents a complex problem, and—even though his point of view is clear—he offers no simple answer. The reader is left with much to contemplate and consider on their own.
If you are a fan of science-fiction with a harder edge and intrigue, then this is a very good choice for you.
Nice space opera with unexpected twists. A couple of minor physics issues do not affect the story. Politics may be a bit heavy handed but the characters make it worth while. Recommended read.
